My “I would nevers” turned into “I dids” and “cant live withouts”

You know how before you have children or while your pregnant all of those thoughts go thru your heard and you say “Oh. I will never do that” or “my child is not going to do that”? You know? Did those change after you had kids? Mine did.

I always said that I didn’t want to let them watch cartoons until later on.. well that got thrown out the window at about month 4. I turned on Bubble Guppies one day and they started laughing at it. It was the most precious thing ever. It would keep them occupied long enough for me to load the dishwasher or do a load of laundry and they loved it so why not? I mean 30 minutes a day couldn’t hurt, right? ;) 10 months later it is the only cartoon show they will watch and they laugh, sing and dance to it and I love watching them do that. That was one of my “I would nevers” turned into I would say “I cant live without”. You moms know what I'm talking about;)

How about the popular “Im going to eat healthy when pregnant and not drink caffeine”? Any of you ever say that? I did and I even said I would count my calories while pregnant. Well, as soon as I got pregnant with the twins I couldn’t get enough food. I was starving ALL THE TIME. I would feel sick if I didn’t snack in between meals. This pregnancy I was pretty hungry in the beginning too but nothing like I was with the twins. I have been so deprived of sleep this pregnancy so I have resorted to daily caffeine. It is completely fine to drink caffeine while pregnant by the way. They give you a certain amount you can have. I probably exceed that amount but I am taking care of twins and when you cant stay awake what else you going to do? I would say that’s a definite I cant live without!

Did you ever tell yourself you would never give your kids chocolate or sweets until they were “old enough”? Yeah that got thrown out the window pretty quick too. My babies already knew what cake and icing tasted like way before their first birthday. But again.. I gave them one piece one day and they smiled so big. It was as if they were saying “oh my gosh mom, this is the yummiest food I've ever tasted”. And yes when we are eating chocolate we will give them a tiny nibble too. Does that make me a bad mom? I don’t think so but you might. So that’s another “I would never” turned into an “I did”.

I'm sure there are plenty more I can share but since I am already feeling judged I'm going to end this post! hah!

What were some of your “nevers” that turned into “dids” or “cant live withouts”??

  1. Great post Jenn! Definitely no judgement here!!! I was so strict with my first baby but the second time around there were a lot less "nevers" and way more "can't live withouts!"

  2. Love this!! By the time I had baby #4 all my "I never" went straight out the window. One year old twins and another on the way? You are superwoman :)

  3. Lol I said no TV until Landon was 2. We started watching Disney Jr. when Landon was 9 months old, and my TV shows were on well before that when he was too young to know what was going on. Landon watches TV every day, but not all day and he doesn't zone out in front of it. He's usually running around while it's on and the stops to dance or sing along every once in awhile. I'm fine with it.

I feed Landon pretty healthy stuff, but he has had his fair share of junk too. Last week I dropped my car off to get a new battery, and we walked to the Dunkin Donuts next door. I let him have 3 chocolate Munchkins. Whatever, it's not the norm, he loved it, and it kept him happy in his stroller while we waited for my car to be done.

One of my biggest "I would nevers" was bed-sharing. Landon almost always sleeps in his own room in his own crib, but there were several nights around 18 months when his sleep went to hell and he'd only sleep in bed with us. You do whatever works :)
