A P-word Dilemma

Do y'all know which P word I am talking about? Well, to make it clear; I am talking two P-words here. Potty-training and the Paci.

Its getting around that time to give up the paci or try to anyways. If any of you have kids who never took the paci be very grateful because mine ask for their paci ALL.DAY.LONG. It is also getting time to potty train miss Jocelynn. She has been interested in it for a while now but she is without a doubt ready.

Do you see my dilemma yet? Should I keep the paci for right now and try to potty train her? Or potty train her while trying to get rid of the paci? I honestly think the whole getting rid of the paci thing is going to be harder than it will be potty training her. But I also don't want too much to change at once for her or for them if JP decided he would like to potty train after seeing sissy.

This is what I am thinking. Start potty training and trying to limit paci time. Not take the paci away but just start limiting the time they get it. My goal is to have it gone by the time Easter comes. That's a good goal right? I know it could be make or break on that case so I didn't want to do a crazy goal like Christmas. They will be turning two shortly after Christmas and I think by the time Easter rolls around, they'll understand a little bit more about giving the paci to the Easter Bunny. Ive seen people "give" their paci's to Santa and stuff like that so why not the Easter bunny?

Maybe they'll be done with it by that time..hopefully. But Lord help me because it is going to be one heck of a fight. I always knew JP would be a paci baby ever since he was just a baby. He loved that thing so much and till this day it is the only thing that will calm him down when he gets upset.

Oh dang you P-word (s)!! What is a momma to do? Any suggestions?

  1. I'm in the same boat--my 21 month old LOVES her paci. I've been trying to limit it (out of sight, out of mind!) but don't want to actively get her off it because we're expecting baby #2 soon and I think she'll just want it back! Good luck!

  2. I started by having them leave it in their bed when they woke up and they could only have it at nap and bed time. Sometimes they would sneak downstairs with it but I didn't make a big deal about it just asked them to take it back and lay it on their pillow. It worked with mine. I had four and they all love their paci's.
    Good Luck
